What We're About

Who We Are

We are generational farmers, business owners, residents, and friends who are working tirelessly to preserve our region for future generations. The beautiful landscapes and rich soils of Southwest Iowa are among our most valuable assets, and greatly benefit our community, as well as visitors and tourists.

With the close proximity of the world-renowned Loess Hills we have an incredibly unique and diverse ecosystem which attracts birdwatchers, conservationists, and photographers each year. According to the Hitchcock Nature Center, the Loess Hills are especially well known for the spectacular raptor migrations, with no other place in the state having documented more migrating raptors than Hitchcock Nature Center in Pottawattamie County; where more than 11,000 raptors of 20+ species are recorded each fall. This area is also one of the most important remaining strongholds for nesting Eastern Whip-poor-wills and Chuck-will’s-widow.

As wind energy has grown throughout the state of Iowa, we have seen long-term economic impacts that do not benefit the local economy, hinder community growth, and a growing number of health concerns for residents and landowners, as well as detrimental effects on local and migratory wildlife.

Sustainability Is What We Do

Leading the charge in sustainable practices, our local and regional farmers and agricultural experts are continuously advancing and adapting to preserve precious farmland and resources for future generations.  Such practices include:

  1. Organic farming
  2. Water conservation
  3. Soil and erosion control
  4. Terracing
  5. Rotating crops and embracing crop diversity
  6. Planting cover crops
  7. Reducing or eliminating tillage
  8. Applying integrated pest management (IPM)
  9. Integrating livestock and crops
  10. Soils testing
  11. Adopting agroforestry practices
  12. Managing whole systems and landscapes
  13. Quail strips
  14. Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), the practice of removing environmentally sensitive land from agricultural production and plant species that will improve environmental health and quality.

Our Goals

We are asking for our county leaders to act now to put in place laws and ordinances that protect not only our landowners and residents in local districts, but our critical and endangered wildlife  from large-scale wind projects that are not favored by the community.

Wind Energy Centers (WEC's) are overwhelmingly supported by citizens not directly impacted by the installation of wind turbines. More often than not, health and quality of life concerns in the impacted areas are downplayed in favor of Big Wind companies and partisan experts. Environmental Impact Reports are written to favor the installation of the project, misrepresenting the impact to critical wildlife.

By requiring counties to provide and maintain predictable and balanced regulations for the pre-screening of wind energy projects within the region, our leadership would be protecting the health, safety, and general welfare of the people and well as the natural environment from possibly adverse effects related to the placement, construction, use, and subsequent disposition of industrial wind towers.

Real People, Real Towns

Treynor, Iowa, just one of our communities finding balance between growth & tradition, fighting to preserve their way of life & pushing back against industrial encroachment in rural communities.  Farmers feed America and should not have to fight private utility companies who see their land as nothing more than dollars signs and tax credits for corporations.
